These accidents can put a halt to New Year's festivities

The New Year's holiday is an exciting time. Many people head out on the town or party with friends, and others enjoy the company of family in their own homes. Regardless of where you are, there's always a risk of suffering a personal injury, and that's something you and most others would want to avoid.

What are some ways people get hurt on New Year's?

Drinking and driving is one serious cause of injuries during the holiday. New Year's Eve celebrations often involve drinking, and not having a designated driver or alternative ride home can mean some people choose to get behind the wheel while drunk.

Drunk driving causes around 10,000 deaths every year in the United States. This is one of the most dangerous holidays for you to be on the road, even if you aren't intoxicated. People are two to three times more likely to be involved in a drunk driving crash during the holidays than at any other time during the year.

Another way people get hurt is by playing with firearms. On top of being intoxicated, someone trying to show off could accidentally fire and cause injuries or deaths. Even if a shot is fired into the air, it can travel up for miles before falling back to the ground; it could still strike and kill someone on impact when it returns to earth.

Intoxication is a pretty prevalent theme throughout New Year's. Remember that drinking too much can be fatal, even if you aren't behind the wheel. Alcohol poisoning can land you in the hospital or worse. In any of these cases, if you're injured as a result of someone else's negligence, whether it's them driving drunk or shooting off fireworks, you may be entitled to compensation.
